Lake Oconee Map Art

Lake Oconee is a reservoir in central Georgia, on the Oconee River between Greensboro and Eatonton. Georgia Power made it in 1979 when it finished Wallace Dam, which still separates Oconee from its sister lake, Sinclair, just downstream. The water reaches into Morgan, Greene and Putnam counties and is fed by both the Oconee and the Apalachee rivers, so the lake branches into two long arms that meet above the dam. With 374 miles of shoreline wrapped around roughly 20,000 acres of water, almost every lot seems to sit on its own finger of a cove. The name comes from Oconee, an old Creek town. Golf communities such as Reynolds Lake Oconee, Cuscowilla and Harbor Club sit along the shore, along with senior living communities like Del Webb at Lake Oconee.
