Lake Champlain Map Art

Lake Champlain is a large natural freshwater lake, about 107 miles long, lying mostly between New York and Vermont and reaching north into Quebec. It sits in the Champlain Valley between the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks and drains north through the Richelieu River to the St. Lawrence. Its links to the St. Lawrence and, through the Champlain Canal, to the Hudson led some to call it the Sixth Great Lake. Burlington, Vermont and Plattsburgh, New York are the largest places on its shore, and historic Fort Ticonderoga stands toward the south end. Grand Isle, North Hero and Isle La Motte break up the northern water into channels and bays. Much of the shore is undeveloped, with state parks such as Button Bay and North Hero, and locals still talk about Champ, the lake monster said to live there.
